BSL is now invaded by cars and vehicles at every nook and cranny and there is insufficient parking lots in that little township, judging from the number of vehicles parked along the road sides.
the new UTAR has a big multilevel basement car park but why are staff not using it? UTAR needs some management planning, and has to act fast to ease the current congestion. The residents will much appreciate this.
To me, the solution to not to create more parking lots. To make our city a green city, it must consider encouraging the use of more environmental friendly mode of transportation. I already saw students beginning to cycle to uni. so, where is the bicycle park? If more bicycle parking facilities are provided, even if it takes away some parking lots to cater to them, it is a worthwhile effort to encourage bicycling.
if one prefers to drive, then, be ready to park further and take a stroll to your destination. Alternatively carry a folding bicycle with you in your car, park and cycle to your destination. If BSL township can be transformed into a bicycling town, it will reduce carbon footprint, encourage physical exercising, safe (fuel) costs, use less fossil resources, and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Someone has suggested that MPKj should review the current traffic flow in the township, to check whether the flow has contributed to the current traffic jams. Example, should the UTAR road be a two-way rather than one way traffic? is it time to introducing pay parking? should the parking lot be re-designed for 45% parking rather than 90% parking? Should there be more enforcement on parking discipline with ready summonses for undisciplined drivers?
Shouldn't the traffic lights on the main road be synced to ensure a smooth flow of traffic? currently vehicles have to stopped twice over a short distance of 100 metres to wait for the lights to turn green.
these are some practical steps that should be considered. Others may have even better suggestions. As for me, I'm happy with my cycling to office so far.
